In August 1966, The Doors “unofficially” signed with Elektra Records. Elektra’s president at the time, Jac Holzman, approached the band with a deal. They took their time, hired a lawyer, and by August 18 had unofficially signed to Elektra - making it official that November. The rest, as they say, is history. Betty Reid Soskin, who retired at 100 as the oldest U.S. Park Ranger, has died at the age of 104. Soskin contributed to the planning of the Rosie the River WWII Homefront National Historical Park, where she later worked as a ranger, sharing stories of her own experiences as a Black woman working under segregation on the homefront during World War II. Soskin was also a talented musician and founder of legendary record store Reid's Records in Berkeley, California. | HISTORY
