Thousands of files related to the Jeffrey Epstein case were released online Wednesday — but there may still be more to come. Why it matters: Files and documents surrounding the disgraced financier — including a batch that showed emails mentioning President Trump — have been at the center of political discourse all year.

The department was deployed, in effect, as an arm of the president’s rapid-response operation to help him muscle through a damaging news cycle over Jeffrey Epstein, former and current officials said.

"House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide," Trump wrote on Sunday night.
